does anyone know a method for slowing down the drying time of these?
I want to color my track the way I saw it done in Model Railroader once. Airbrush it flat black, and while it’s still wet, go over it with light gray. But when I spray the black on; by the time I change colors and clean the airbrush; the black will be dry!
You can get artists’ medium - Retarder Medium - that’s made for the purpose, but in my experience it’s ineffective, particularly when the paint is applied thinly, plus it tends to add a bit of gloss. To avoid the gloss you have to use so little that it won’t do the job. I guess you could say I’m not a fan.
Maybe there’s some other new product on the market, or maybe they’ve improved that one. It’s years since I bothered to use it.
Ok… 2 paint bottles for the airbrush.
why are you cleaning the airbrush, change the bottle and you can clean it good enough for what you are doing by shooting some paint onto a piece of cardboard,
Thinner, are you using water? Matte medium is the thinner of choice. Blue windsheild washer fluid is a better thinner than water. I use both, but never water.
In the magazine, didn’t they use floquil? It’s “oilbased” and they dry slower .
Last note, cooler it is the slower it dries. Ouside in the morning on a fall/winter day?
