I’m having a hard time finding Floquil Acrylic Paint Thinner. Walthers is sold out. Is there any other brand that can be used?
Where can I find a source for paint and thinner other than Walthers?
Thanks,
Bill

I’ve been using 70% distilled water/30% isopropyl alcohol with great results. I use this for Polly Scale and craft paint. Mix the alcohol with the water first before adding to the paint.
Since acrylic paints are water based, you could try just using a little water.
I think if i remember right they don’t recommend using plain tap water because of minerals and such, and i can tell you that Testors makes an acrylic thinner, and you can get it at Hobby Lobby, and i know Micro-Mark carries some of the Polly Scale line, not sure if they have Floquil.
WINDEX!

I use distilled water and as a recent convert from solvent based paint, I am very satisfied with the results.

Tamiya thinner works.
…or denatured alcohol.
I’ve used both with great success.

I recently used distilled water for the first time to thin an acrylic and it worked quite well…

Hi,
I use “Delta Ceramcoat” acrylic paints, which are inexpensive and are available at craft stores such as “Michaels” and “Joanne’s Fabrics”. Delta makes there own thinner (although not all craft stores carry it so I’ve bought it on the net). Here is a link http://www.createforless.com/Delta+Ceramcoat+Acrylic+Thinner+2+oz/pid10509.aspx The thinned “Delta Ceramcoat” works great in my air brush but I always thin the paint a little, even when I’m just brushing the paint on because then it doesn’t dry out as quickly in the well in my paint pallet.
Hope this helps.

Tap water has always worked well for me; granted, not a lot of minerals, etc., in the water here.
Wow! I have used tap water to thin acrylic house paint but thought acrylic model paints were different.
I appreciate all the help. There is a Michael’s near hear. I’ll check with them as well as using the distilled water and or denatured alcohol. I never knew you could use so many things to cut / thin acrylic model paints.
Thanks,
Bill
