Anyone got any info for me on this place?
Acworth is located along Old HWY 41 which is awesome for chasing trains from Acworth to Cartersville. I’d reccomend parking in the lot next to the caboose for some nice shaded fannin’. Around 55-60 trains ply the W&A Sub which passes through town and there is a passing siding right in downtown. If you head north through Emerson to Cartersville you will pass some great places to photograph the many trains, and come to Junita (pronounced yun-tah) junction where the Etowah Sub (localy known as the K&A) splits from the Western & Atlantic. Numerous locals are sent out of Junita every day in all directions. There is a large industrial park 4 miles north of Cartersville on the K&A along HWY 411 that has 2 alco S2s that switch. Also located in the industrial district is the Wyvern Yard. For good southern cooking, I’d reccomend Doug’s Place in Emerson, and Ross’s Diner in Cartersville across from the Depot.
Thanks, I went there yesterday. Chose Cartersville over Acworth.
How’d it go? I caught an IC SD40-2 coming through today, but I couldn’t get any photos. The lines been busy lately.
It was OK. I heard a TON of train horns but none of them went by? I did see W&S’s “Supporting Our troops” boxcar and a Conrail or two. That was about it though.
Where’d you sit at?
I sat in front of the station, downtown.
Oh well, those must have been either locals, or Bowen Coal trains taking the wye onto the NB W&A. Hey, if you have plans for going up there around Feb 1 through the 7 contact me, I’ll be up in town square railfanning on some of those days.
