A few challenges
1 how to adapt Gargraves rail to insulated rail of 022 switch?
- using Super O gauge uncoupling sections with Gargraves track. What do you do about pins?
3 not about track pins: how do you uncouple log or milk car which is positioned to be unloaded? Need a magnet right next to end of 6019,but how?
How could I build on Gargraves track a piece of track with control rails to activate milk, log, coal and other operating cars and also with a magnet scavenged from an o27 6019 unit at one end at the right distance to uncouple a car in correct position to unload its cargo?
I Have another thread on which I ask how I could build a unit in gargraves track which would allow me to uncouple coal, milk, and log cars in such a position that they would be on control rails to activate the operation of the car. I am disappointed that nobody had any comment. I have been looking at the possibility of matching a super 0 uncoupling unit to a 6019 at its end, but as I investigate, it looks like I’d have to cut off perhaps a half inch of the 6019 track in order to get the magnematic coupler over the magnet, and have the slider shoes over the control rails. I believe that if I use some adapter pins made for gargraves to 027 track, perhaps a little grinding of the gargraves end would allow its insertion into the super o uncoupling unit. But I am concerned about cutting the 601 9/2 inch shorter. I can’t believe that I’m the first person who would like to be able to uncouple a car with a with it positioned for operation by the slider shoes and control rails. I welcome help here.
Gargraves does sell that operating track, but it’s not cheap, if lucky you can find it on eBay cheaper, I think I found mine on eBay for less than $25 each, but you have to look constantly.
Does it have a magnet for uncoupling at one and at a location that allows you to drop cars properly positioned on control rails for operation? That’s my goal.
