I have a Roundhouse RTR caboose that is too light in weight. The shell appears to be glued on all around so it won’t pop off. Any ideas on the best way to add an ounce or two?
Drill a 1/4" hole in the floor and pour in lead shot-the kind used in shot gun shells. I usually add a little white glue and shake the car to even out the weight. Try and keep it centered and alow a few days for it to day. This may not work with a caboose due to the windows .Plug the hole.
Paint the wheel backs and axles with insulating paint, then wrap a turn or two of small-diameter solid wire solder around them. Paint the solder black.
This also works for flat cars and other cars where access to the interior is poor - but isn’t so hot for frameless tank cars.
