Has anyone tried adding weight to the Spectrum 2-10-2. I looked at the exploded parts drawing and didn’t see a boiler weight. If there isn’t one it should be a simple place to add a few ozs. The locomotive runs very well and will handle 28 empty Walthers ore cars up my grade with a little slipping. I just like to get it to pull about 32 to 36 loaded ones up the grade. The loads are very light made out of foam covered with ore.
Thanks for any help that comes along
I was not aware SPECTRUM made a 2-10-2. They make a small Russian Decapod (Ordered by the Czar pre-revolution) and sold to USA lines with light trackage. The Kansas City Mexico & Orient was such a road.
2-10-2’s are offered by IHC and Bachmann, and hopefully by BLI.
P.S. I doubt the real Russian Decapod could have handled 28 cars on ‘flat’ terrain, let alone up a grade, without double heading. Think about it.
Uh, Spectrum is made by Bachmann last time I looked. And they do make a 2-10-2.
Yes Bachmann has a new 2-10-2 in thier spectrum line.
The Spectrum 2-10-2 is a USRA Light model.
The boiler is die-cast zinc alloy, like the Spectrum Heavy USRA 4-8-2. There are very few places to add additional wieght.
Paul, you may want to try tuning up your Ore cars.
Thanks for the information Nigel. The ore cars are Walthers and have the metal wheels. They are very free rolling. Actually some of the best rolling cars I’ve ever seen. If the boiler is a casting there won’t be any room for extra weight. I’ll have to try somewhere else. I guess adding a 2-8-0 helper at the bottom of the grade is an option and add operating interest. I guess this is one more reason to get DCC.
