Adhesive Lead Weights

Aw geez, Wayne, you are always 10 steps ahead of me! But thank you very much for new inspiration. Tell more about that method. What are the flat plates you make casting molds from? Cedarwoodron

Ron, that’s simply sheet aluminum. There were quite a few sheets of it, about 2’x3’, left in my garage by the previous owner. It’s about .015" thick. I score it lightly (a couple of passes with a utility knife) to facilitate making the bends, and score it more heavily (a few more passes with the knife) to break the pre-scored moulds from the main sheet and from one another - simply flex it a couple of times along the heavy score line.
I’m not sure where you could buy it, although you might find it where they sell stuff for do-it-yourself autobody repair. When I first started casting my own weights, I used scraps left-over from aluminum siding - it’s a little thicker, and actually stands up better than the sheets which I’m using now. With careful use (you usually need to partially open one or two sides of the mould to release the casting) you should be able to make at least 5 or 6 casts with the thin sheet material before the mould breaks due to metal fatigue. If you can find aluminum siding, it works well, and lasts even longer - when you make the bends to form the mould, make sure that the paint is on the outside.

Thanks very much. Cedarwoodron
