Hi again, all. I used to use Tenax 7R for all my scratch-building styrene model buildings, but my local HS told me it’s no longer made! I heard Plastruct’s Plastic Weld is just as good, maybe a little thicker, which is fine by me. I’d like to know what everyone else thinks, or recommends, for styrene. Thanks much!

Lacquer thinner has worked great for me for many years. It’s also useful for thinning many paints, such as Floquil, Scalecoat, Testors (including Dullcote and Glosscote), SMP Accupaints, Humbrol, and Pactra, and as a prep when using contact cement to join styrene to wood or metal. It’s also a good brush and airbrush cleaner (not for plastic parts, though) and is useful for stripping paint from brass locomotives. Canadian Tire has it in whatever the (smaller) equivalent measurement is of pints, quarts, and gallons.

I have had to make exactly that change recently. It seems to be OK so far, but it hasn’t been very long.

Sounds good, yeh, but as long as it doesn’t make the corners ‘suck’ the walls in, producing that awful warping effect!!!
