Advice on Building a NS Research Caboose

Greetings all,

I have recently become interested in modeling a Norfolk Southern Research Caboose. I found decals made by ShellScale (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Norfolk-Southern-Research-Caboose-Decals-HO162-/111013923030?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19d8f208d6
I was hoping to find an undecorated model that could be easily modified or used for the project. What would be the best pre-build model to go with? I noticed that Athearn has a blue box Bay Window Caboose. I was hoping to be as prototypical to the picture provided with the ShellScale decals. Thank You for any advice given

Wright Trak used to make a model that appears close to me: http://www.wrighttrak.com/page3.php?view=productPage&product=15&category=2. If they are still in business, the website is: http://www.wrighttrak.com/ Note that this is a kit, but if you really want accuracy…

Thank You so much for your advice. I really appreciate it

The problem with most of the Athearn RTR stuff is that the Chinese are really good at gluing everything together - Real Good!. Trying to ‘pop’ open one of them is a real challenge. I would suggest buying a ‘new’ un-opened ‘kit’ off of eBay. They are easy to strip(91% isopropyl alcohol), and you can modify/add details before you paint/decal it.

Jim

I have a Atlas NS research caboose, different than the one you are talking about, it is gray with black lettering.

Yeah, ‘Jim Knows!!!’
I got some Proto 2K undecs, & even the windshields were glued in, the Grabs & Lift Rings were Melted on…
I almost had a triple coranary…
Test the waters before buying a multipe order…
Hope the best, & please post some pix, we really enjoy seeing the successes in unique models.

Can’t wait to see it!

I tried the link. The website is still up and they have a Southern caboose that looks really close if not identical to the pic on ebay. If were up to me I’d go that route.
