AF 944 6 wheel trucks

I’m wondering if Flyer ever produced a version of the 944 Brownhoist that actually had 6 wheels in the truck. The reason I ask is that I noted that the side trucks are bored for 6 wheelsets, but mine only came with 4 wheels.

Since I routinely upgrade all my rolling stock to metal wheelsets anyway, I took two of the old plastic wheels chucked them up in my drill and ground off the flanges. Here they are reinstalled with the new wheels.

I do not believe they ever did. I have a link coupler version since the early 50s when my dad purchased it new and it did not have the center axle filled. I guess it is something you do not really see and it was a way to save a couple of pennies for AC Gilbert Company.
