Anyone get eMail from Trainworld? They’re having special closeout on P2K GE U28B sound unit locos. Schemes are L&N 89.99, CB&Q 99.99, NYC 99.99 and UP 119.99. They’re normally asking $179 for these units. Unfortunately, these units are outside my layout’s era. Tempting though…maybe a back to the future kind of excursion?
I received eMail Sat. 04-Nov. Probably a get 'em while you can.

He meant that since the U28B is too new for your era, at that price gettign the drive and sound decoder would make it worthwhile to scrap the body shella nd make something more appropriate to your era - although if I U28B is too new then there isn’t a whole lot you could make that would fit and use GE trucks. Of course the sideframes pop off too…
Or for someone who wants GE sound for another loco - at that price, stip out the sound board and speakers, rewire it for plain DC< and sell the U28B as a non-sound loco, worth nearly what Trainworld is charging for the sound units, and end up with a cheap sound decoder.
I’m waiting for the GP9’s to go on closeout so I can swap the bodies off my GP7’s.
I have spent a lot of my modelrailroad budget purchasing good buys to convert to a different unit. I would also buy paint, decals and detail parts. Then someone makes a DCC ready to run version of what I was going to make.
I have one and it runs very well but I am not impressed with the QSI sound, it just sounds too fake, I bought it because i was tempted by the low price even though I am modeling present day. . I only have 1 other sound equipped unit, the Kato AC4400 with digitrax sound, not very impressed either. I heard good things about Loksound though, think I’ll give them a try next.
