Ageless Hobbies - vendor advertising in Jan 26, 2017 MR Newsletter

An advertisement for on online vendor, Ageless Hobbies, appears in Model Railroader’s email newsletter on January 26, 2017.

Has anyone heard of this vendor or have any information about the vendor? The website is sketchy. Are advertisers vetted in any way?

Thanks. Mark

I’ve seen sketchier websites. Still though, I wouldn’t order until we are sure it’s real and has a good reputation.

After looking at the site, it’s not what one would call a well stocked E-store.

Their physical address turns up as “The UPS Store” Looking at the strip of stores using Google Street View, the building seems to be fairly new but I don’t see any signage for Ageless Hobbies.

Time will tell…

I am quite sure that if it appears in Model Railroader’s newsletter it is legitimate. They would never allow and promote anyone “shady”.

All, Thanks for the feedback. I did place an order on 1/27/17 for a Bachmann Doodlebugs in N Scale. It arrived today. It is in pristine, new condition, and obviously, shipped quickly. Ed, I didn’t find an address when I searched. The Greenville, DE address you found is the address on the receipt and package. This was the best price I have seen on these. I wasn’t really looking for one, but at that price, it was a novelty I had to have! Thanks all. Mark

To answer the original question, “Are advertisers vetted in any way?”, we don’t do test-orders from them or anything like that. But they do have to be legit enough to pay their bill, obviously.

Beyond that, we have a policy printed in the back of every issue by the Advertiser Index: If you have a dispute with any MR advertiser, contact us and we’ll try to settle it. If you don’t get a proper resolution, we won’t accept any advertising from them in the future.

That should give you some confidence in the advertisers you see in MR, its newsletters, website, or Forums.

UPS Stores sell mail boxes to businesses and people. Just because the company uses a UPS mail drop, should not be considdered a problem.
