I have been thinking for sometime now about what i want to do for a career and i figured i would try to combine two things i like the most together: trains and ag. My question though is, are there railroad companies that are looking for people with ag. backgrounds to work for them. Like with grain, equipment, or something along those lines. I have been looking at different train companies and there isn;t really a whole lot of information to found, so any help would be appriciated. thanks
You won’t find it in the engineering or track departments, UNLESS you like to see plants die. Anything that grows on the R/W, in drainageways or under bridges needs to die except for certain groundcover used for slope protection and trees that serve as snow/sand windbreak barriers. Want to work with the weed sprayers?

THere is a building in Green river that has a sign on it the syas UP Environmental Services or somthing like that, I don’t know what they do but its really dilapidated and there is never really anyone there.
Perhaps marketing at a larger road. Most have a grain marketing or ag marketing section.

First and foremost the railroads are going to be looking for degrees in business, logistics, engineering and law. If you have an ad background on top of that it might be a plus. As an example in a chemical marketing group we hired someone out of college for the fast track with a BS in chemical engineering from Texas A&M and a MBA from Northwestern.
You could get a job cuttin the grass outside UP HQ…
