Ah American Flyer Smoke - nothing like the original

Well I ran out of my last bottle of American Flyer smoke so I purchase a Lionel / American Flyer compatible grade that just does not smell like the original. Does anyone know who sells a bottle of the ‘good stuff’? What brand is closest to the original?

SUPER SMOKE,www.bartspneumatics.com

Thanks, I will buy a bottle and try it out…

Which one did you buy? the Cedar, Christmas, or mint? If I want the original smell would that be the Cedar?

Thanks,

Portlines sells a smoke fluid that smells like the original stuff, I think RGFCO does also

The RFG fluid smells and smokes exactly like the original fluid. I have compared the RFG fluid side by side with an orinal Gilbert capsule, and I can’t tell the difference between the two. I have used Super Smoke in the past, and I have found that it can clog wicks due to the higher viscosity.

I have never had a problem with Supersmoke, have used it in every engine that smokes. From postwar to present.

yikes no clogged wicks please! Has anyone tried to change these out?! I am doing one now and its a hair pulling experience…

I’ve used Supersmoke for years, and had no problems yet.

J. Daddy,

One thing I have found that makes the process easier is to enlarge the holes that the wick passes through. I used a drill to enlarge the holes, but I can’t recall what size bit I used. By enlarging the holes, the flow of fluid is no longer restricted, so the engine will smoke better and longer. I was looking at smoke fluid in the Flyer section of ebay, and I saw Challenger smoke fluid. I’ve never tried it, but it is supposedly close to the original.
