AHM heavy duty flat & Norscot HO scraper

Hello all,

Years ago this AHM flat had an HO scale caterpillar tractor and pull pan, long lost to whomever owned this car before me. It’s sad to see the old load gone, it was a nicely done detail umex model.

So out with the old and in with the new. I added a wood deck to the AHM heavy duty flat, added couplers boxes, weathered the decking and painted the coupler boxes. Then using a stock Norscot twin engine Cat 627G scraper, painted a few of the engine details, added Hydraulic hoses and then last but not least added cribbing.

I didn’t turn out to bad, much better then the umex load the car once came with.
Yes I know my painting skills still suck, still working on that.

patrick im not 100% sure but i think all heavy duty flats had a nailable steel deck on them. i have seen the Cat scrapers on 60 ft wood deck flats and other equiptment on various length of flats from 60 ft to 89 ft

tom

Yeah know Tom…I think your right . I have a coupIe of roundhouse 60 ft flats but I just wanted to update this car to a more modern look. Thanks for the kind words…

Nice job. May I be so inquisitive and ask as to what you used for the hydraulic hoses?
JP

Sure JP… I used grade stake nylon plastic runners. A coupler of years a go while working on a job-site , I came across a few grade stakes with these nylon runners. They use these so graders and dozers don’t cover up the grade stakes. Anyway I picked up a bunch of them for use. There about the width of 30 pound fishing string.
