AHM/IHC ho scale Budd pass. cars

I am glad that you are all here to maybe help out an old model RR. I was just wondering, in all of these years if someone can tell me, what ever happened to the short lived Budd pass.cars by AHM/IHC. They where listed in a few of the older model catologs, years gone by. I was courious if some other manf.might have saved the dies. I think that they offerd only a few styles of cars. I can only hope to find some at a fair price. I don’t care about the quality of detail, just as long as they are the real thing. I know the old adage of get them while you can. But hey, who’d of thought that they would take them darn thing’s away from us old Varnish fans. Thank’s for any and all help and info Dave

can’t tell you about their authenticity. AHM became IHC and the dies are probably n Slovenia where they were last made. The Walthers cars are higher quality and reasonably priced when on sale.

AHM changed its name to IHC several years ago. IHC is now out of business. The owner passed away last month, according to an item in Model Railroader magazine, and had not made arrangements for anyone to take over the business.

Your only hope of finding those passenger cars today will be e-Bay.

…and swap meets, and the used/consignment tables of well stocked hobby shops. The rather expensive Walthers cars are not your only option: don’t ignore the ConCor passenger cars.

I see them for sale used all the time. Look around at shows or Ebay and you will find them.

I’m pretty sure I saw a few of those cars at my LHS earlier this week - still new in the box, I think. I’ll check on my next visit, or you can try yourself - they have a couple of easy ways to contact them HERE (the two blue boxes at the top of the screen).

Dave,

There are two different styles of IHC fluted-side HO scale cars. The first style was made by Rivarossi and each is based on a Budd prototype. As I recall, the coach, 10-6 sleeper, and diner are NYC cars and the obs is a Reading car. To my knowledge these molds are not in production. The newer cars are different; I don’t know what they were based on.

Thanks for reading MR,

Terry.
