I know AHM is long gone manufacture wise but is there a place that makes replacement parts for AHM or a company that has parts that can be used to in a sense upgrade the couplers and other vital parts?
Both Kadee and McHenry make replacement couplers for AHM/Rivarossi products. NWSL also has a large number of regear kits for AHM steam, and a couple rewheels kits for their diesels. What upgrades are you wanting to do, exactly?
By the way, AHM never manufactured anything themselves. They were the US importer for Rivarossi, Mehano, and a couple others.
Cool thanks, the only real upgrade i’m thinking of is just upgrading the couplers on the engines and cars (since everything is from the 60’s-80’s) to the EZ couplers style that most the manufactures use now. Have a few older Bachmann rolling stock also that has the same couplers as the AHM and at this point can’t use any of this stuff with my good stuff. Plus if stuff like rollers and traction wheels can be used from other manufactures might have alittle easier time hunting replacement parts down in the future when needed rather then buying and stocking them away till when or if i need them.
Really? Then your freight cars probably have talgo style couplers. Kadee makes an almost drop-in replacement coupler kit for talgo coupler boxes. It would actually be even better to just replace the whole trucks and body mount the couplers. It’s really pretty easy to do, and ends up working much better. My coupler preference is Kadee #5s and #58s, and for trucks, it’s the ones with metal wheels by Athearn. It’ll cost about $3 more per car because of the trucks, but you’ll end up with super-smooth rollers that won’t be dragged off the track by truck-mounted couplers. Or, if you can find the proper width axles, you can still use the old trucks and replace the plastic wheels with quality metal ones.
Cool thanks for the info, yeah i noticed the wheels were plastic too and didn’t care for it was hopin to find metal wheels that would solve the problem also but this looks like it address all of the problems thanks again.
