I have an older Atlas FP-7 and a Model Power FA2 with a Roco drive and they are good runners. I’m looking at an AHM/Roco C424 on eBay; can I expect the same quality drive as the others?.
If it is what i had years ago i put a Atlas Roco flywheel on the end and it ran ok only one truck was powered .
I have a Roco Gp38-2 and it runs great.
I would not waste my money on an AHM locomotive. (Not even $5.) I have two [AHM’s] and their detailing is bad, and their drivers are no where close to Atlas. The AHM’s almost as good as the $10-$15 Bachmans. You would get more bang for your $$$ if you bought an Athearn.

Even Atlas locomotives originally had Roco drives in them. If you’re sure the AHM is a Roco drive, it should be an excellent runner unless the previous owner has run it too death already.
The AHM C424 is not worht pursuing. Save your money for an Atlas model of the C424.
The AHM C424 uses a plastic version of the Model Power FA2 truck 4 wheel pick up and a crude open framed motor.
I read an article on how to upgrade one of these by adding a second power truck and an Atlas motor and tried it. It was a lot of work but runs as well as my Roco FP-7
It in no way compares to my Atlas C-424 though.
