Air horn sound for NYC FT

I need some help from some of you experts. I posted this on a the NYC Rainfan.net forum but haven’t gotten a reponse yet.

Would any of you know what type of air horn would have been used on a 1st Generation EMD FT diesel - ca. 1944? I was told by someone that is was a Wabco E2. The locomotive that I’ll be getting is special run of the Stewart FT A-B units in the NYC moniker - #1600 A-B, to be exact.

Of the six (6) DSX sound decoders that Soundtraxx has, the Wabco E2 is, in my humble opinion, the “wimpiest” - if I can use that term respectfully. I want to be prototypical but I was wondering, how much leeway would I have with using a different air horn sound - e.g. like the plain Wabco? Or, the Leslie S3? Or, the Nathan K3, M5 or P3*?

*For those interested, here’s a direct link to a web page where the sampled air horn sounds can be heard:

I do thank you for your input. [:)]

Hmmm…I’m getting as many responses here as I am on the Rainfan.net link. Guess I stumping the band on this one. [:(]

I saw your question both here and there. No answer for you (Hudsons and Mohawks didn’t use horns), but can suggest that you can get an answer from either of these two discussion lists. One is primarily aimed at modelers and the other for general discussion.
