Airbrush and model master paint

I have had a tough time getting paint lately. My internet hobby store doesn’t seem to want to ship it (or doesn’t have it) and the only local hobby store only had old paint in colors no one wants. Yence why they are old. I bought some model master paint from Hobby Lobby. Can you use that with an airbrush? What are some techniques for good paint job?

Yes the model master paint can be use with airbrush… not sure if you got acrylic or oil base. I used them on aircraft model before and I usually use a primer before applying the color. You might need to thin it before using it for airbrush

I had a similar problem, the 30+ year Train Hobby Shop closed in 2008 and that did in our local source for Train related goodies. RC Cars & Planes Hobby Shops are stable here. An employ of the closed shop opened a Store a couple of years later but to survive in that business you have to go with the flow and the flow is RC stuff. He is stocking some model railroad supplies. He did start stocking Tru-Color Paints and they have worked out for me better than any other brand that I had used previously.

TCP is ready to go in airbrushes and they have a great selection of model railroad colors. I’m hooked on TCP, my only problem with TCP is price. At $5.50 per ounce I still use a lot of Crafters paints at $2 for 4 ounces.

Good Luck!

I have used Model Master acrylic in my airbrush. Thinned slightly to spray, but it does work.

Hi Nile. Both, the MM solvent based & acrylic based paints may be sprayed through airbrushes with good results.

If you don’t have the corresponding thinners, you can use distilled water to thin the acrylic version and straight lacquer thinner (not mineral spirits) for the solvent based version. I’ve had good results with automotive paint lacquer thinners available at local bodyshop supply stores.

Respectfully I always suggest that when thinning, do so sparingly and always test your mixes first on scrap material before spraying the model.
