Do any of you out there use the Aztec airbrush? I saw a complete kit today for $40 which includes 12 colors of testor paint and a compressor adapter. I think the kit number was 9174(?).

I’ve been airbrushing for years but have never used an Aztec. All I can pass on to you is that I’ve read unfavorable reports regarding this unit. But don’t take my word for it, do your research.
Now, for my 2 cents. If you’re going to be just “weathering” occasionally then an “economy” style (cheap) airbrush wouldn’t be bad.
If you are going to be painting locomotives, cars or other scale models then save up the extra dollars and get a Badger or Passche single action brush. Excellent atomization and control. Taken care of, they will last years! (though the Paasche, while good, is more delicate than the Badgers)
There are some beginners that subscribe to the thought “I’ll just practice with a cheap airbrush and upgrade once I get good!” Bad thinking as the philosophy of a pro is “Get quality work with quality tools!”

Well, I hadn’t heard anything good about the Aztecs either, and the other day I went with a guy to get his truck which he had had some stripes airbrushed onto. The shop had several vehicles with all kinds of good looking artwork on them. Man was using an Aztec. I asked him about it. He said, “It’s just a single action brush. What in the world could anyone mess up making a single action brush? If it gets dropped or stepped on it’s cheaper to replace. For really fine stuff I use a double action.” Different perspective, just passin’ it on.
