Airbrushing/Paint Questions....

Bought a Paasche dual action awhile ago whith great anticipation of becoming a painting expert. Unfortunately diaster was lurking just around the corner. First project was a model car my son and I were assembling, and I picked up a jar a Tamiya paint which yielded horrible results for me.

Figured I might not be ready for a dual action brush just yet so I got a similar single action. This time I figured I’d try my hand on a old U33C shell using PollyScale and Model Master paint. First I sprayed the MM strainght from the jar as the instructions indicated, went on ok but not really pleased with the application. The next day I applied a different color using the PS paint properly thinned using PS thinner. BIG DIFFERENCE!!

Very pleased with the PS product and finish but would like to get a couple of opinions from those more advanced as to other paint brands and results achieved. Is there a comprehensive ratings guide/list on the different brands as well as recomemened thinning?

I have sprayed Model Master paints, as well as brush-pinted them and find them to leave a beautiful finish. Bear in mind there are two versions of Model Master - the enamel that requires mineral spirits to thin it, and the Acryl that is supposed to be thinned with Testor’s airbrush thinner. I have never read that MM paints could be sprayed unthinned. In fact, the Kalmbach book, “How to Paint Railroad Models” (or something like that) specifically recommends thinning MM paints. The only paint that I know of that can be sprayed unthinned is Badger’s Modelflex, a paint I highly recommend.
