Does anyone know about n scale planes? I have been serching on-line and i see many 1:400 and 1:500 planes, do these work well with n scale?
I think the 1-144 scale would work the best with N-scale. A little off but who’s gonna know.
The very small scale planes would work at a distance, if used with similar-scale airport buildings. The technique is known as forced perspective - using smaller scale background models to make distances seem longer.

I’m building and airport on my layout too so I can give you some help. planes, now you can get model planes from major airlines like Pan Am. Runways, you’ll need a big space on your layout mark out two strips one bigger than the other. Then mark out three little off runways from the big one to the small one. Then mark a parking bay for your planes, now here comes the fun part building the buildings now with this one the only thing that you have to do is be creative!
And don’t forget to allow 30 to 60 feet of your layout or so for the runway in N scale or about 60 to 120 feet in HO. Runways for passenger jets are about 100 feet wide and one to two miles long. give or take.
I’m looking to put only part of a small sod airstrip on my HO layout design and I’m suprised at how much room it’s going to use. I’m ending up with only one main hangar and one t-hangar and the suggestion of the runway. It’s the detail around the hangars I was after anyway so I’ll make it work. Will have to scratchbuild the airplanes as there are no kits available for what I want. Anyone thinking about adding an airport to their layout really ought to reconsider unless they have lots of real estate. An airliner at the end of a 800 foot runway is doomed! Cubs and Champs rarely fly out of 800 feet unless the approaches are clear at both ends!
Avoid using up all that valuable real estate on your layout. Why not compromise and construct a helicopter field or a site for VTOL planes such as the Harrier that is used by the Marines. They don’t need a runway and still give an excuse for constructing all kinds of buildings.
