These engines are preserved, and in operational condition, being switched on from time to time. Their house is now Mexico’s Railway Museum, in Puebla. Here’s the complete adress

Two of the 4 that made it to Mexico are back in the US now. At least one of the remaining two in Mexico was ‘stuffed & mounted’; and the other may hve been restored. Of the two back in the US; one is going to the Smithsonian, and the other will be kept by by a private party.

I don’t know if any NYC Niagaras went to Mexico, but the NdeM called its 4-8-4s Niagaras and they were a lot smaller than the NYC ones, so they couldn’t be the same. You might be thinking of those. There could have been some NYC ones sent there too though.
