Alco RS27

I tried looking up info on these locos.

Does anyone know if any of the RS27’s touched Canadian Lines. Maybe the Demonstrators?

Anyone know?

Thanks Caso

I’m pretty sure that PGE either leased or purchased at least one RS27 demonstrator.

it must have been leased, at least according to this website.

From Richard Steinbrenner’s excellent American Locomotive Company A Centennial Remembrance the demonstrators worked on 22 different railroads. Steinbrenner does not list them. The former demonstators were used as part of a lease fleet and were acquired by MLW, went to Canada and worked for PGE and for Devco on Cape Breton Island. See pages 399-401.

Part 2 of Demonstrating the DL640 by Chris MacDermot has just come out in The Railroad Press #73.

Hi

If you have access to the book Rail Canada vol 2, on page 27 is a photo of demo RS-27 675 as a trailing unit with RS-18 626. It doesn’t say when it was taken.

Jim

That’s on PGE
