ALCO S-2 switcher UP question

HI

I have recently started to collect UP diesel locomotives of the period 1960-62

I have a model of the ALCO S-2 switcher of the UP by ATLAS in HO scale with a yellow/grey paint scheme red number 1151 and the logo DEPENDABLE TRANSPORTATION painted on both side of the cab

I would like to know if this loco with this combination of features is suitable for the time period i collect?

thanks very much in advance

Here is a picture of 1141 in 1965 with that lettering:

Dependable Transportation on the cab started with SD24 deliveries in June of 1959. This lasted until 1972, when We Can Handle It started being applied Based on those dates, I suspect that the S2’s had a mix of Dependable Transportation and Road of the Streamliners/Serves All The West in the 1960-1962 era time period.

Hi Jim

Thanks very much for your reply and pic much appreciated

I have also noticed that on this S-2 there are what i think safety stripes on the lower front and rear of the loco

They are painted in red/white while on other locos of the same era the stripes appear to be white/grey the red/white stripe have a meaning in terms of chronology?

thanks again

Hi Jim

About the red/white stripes a the lower front and back of the alco s-2 switcher loco i find this strange also because this switcher were retired in the late 60’s long before getting this stripes as for UPY

Is this a mistake by the model maker or is there any other explanation?

thanks very much

The UP applied some diagonal white safety striping in the pilots of many switchers, but I never heard of any RED-and- white striping until the adoption of the “UPY” designations.
