Here’s a GREAT photo showing the surface for an S3. I’m having a bit of trouble filling in the form, so I’ll just submit this and hope for luck. Please note that the various Alco S’s 1,2,3, and 4 were quite similar.

great photo!!! looks like plain old diamond plate steel to me. we were using it on the IC in 50’ boxcars that were assigned to auto parts service back in the early 60’s.

Yeah, I just noticed I could “zoom” the picture. There’s five pages of these. Boy, I wish more people would take and post high quality studies like this.
