Alco vs. EMD

Looking at the deisels from say, 1950, do Alco locos look better in model form (Z-G), or do EMD’s?

Totaly subjective, no real answer to that one. I like them all, even BL2’s [(-D]

Totaly subjective. It’s like asking if blonds or redheads are better or Chevys or Fords.

Oh, I’d prefer a redhead over a Ford any day.

I like the sound of the Alco. Smells like victory.

Well…I prefer EMD E or F units over Alco PA or FA’s, although the PA’s are often cited as “the most beautiful diesel locomotives ever”. (They’re nice, I just prefer the ‘bulldog’ nose on EMD units.) But then I like Alco highnose C-628’s IF they’re in CNW paint !! [D)]

I do think the RS-3 has a nice look to it. GP’s (especially highnoses) aren’t bad, but not as ‘streamlined’ as the RS-3.

For switchers, the NW/SW series and the Alco S series are about even. (I’d prefer an FM H-10-44 myself.)

Hard to say. The RR I grew up seeing had EMD, FM and Baldwin diesels but no Alco’s, so I guess Alco’s do have the advantage for me of being a little ‘exotic’. [:D]

Emd for me. I like the looks better

alco, alco, alco, alco…[:)]

Fairbanks-Morse - O-P all the way

I’m an EMD nut although I do have 5 ALCO’s. The PA was given the title of ‘Honorary Steam Locomotive’ because it was so smoky and had a loud chugging sound to the exhaust. I’ve seen a number of them in action and I can attest to that.

EMD for me![:P]

ALCO! ALCO! ALCO! ALCO!

Nothing beats the sleek lines of an RS3.

Nick

I like Alco also but I prefer say a Nice GP7 highnose

To me EMD diesels look better than Alcos but Alco farts sound better than EMD farts. They are cloudier too.

Oh, wait, wrong answer.

Its gotta be Southern!

I think there is nothing nicer looking than a consist of SD40’s, And the sound of the prime movers just screaming is music to my ears. They look and sound so powerful.

Blondes, and Chevy![:D]

Brunettes, and Chevy[:D][tup][yeah]

ANY blonde! ANY redhead! ANY Chevy! (Not necessarily in the order!)

I drive a Ford.

I’m soooooo lonely! LOL

Darrell, quiet…for now
