I have a friend who wants me to paint an Algoma Central Engine for him. I am trying to find some information on the color used for the maroone/dark brown on these engines and have not had any luck so far. I was hopong someone here might know the answer. Also does the microscale decal set do these engines? The microscale website does not have a picture of the decal set posted yet…
Hmmm, you mean tint to the color right. Im a WC buff ( if you hadnt noticed the forum name) so its maroon. The tip is to make it a bit more dull than the bright maroon out there, and it relatively close to the WC maroon. Microscale had some, not sure if they have them anymore , ask on a yahoo group called WCinfo. Go check it out, i GARUNTEE youll fine the answer there.
Having had the F units sit within a mile of my house for almost a year I would say that if you duplicated the Erie Lackawanna colors you would be pretty darn close.
I have one of their locos for my N-scale layout. However, I don’t have a photo of it otherwise I would post it for you to see.
I think there are pictures of them in a book I have on the ACR. I’ll try to post pics for you in the coming days.
I am pretty sure you can find decals for the ACR; but I don’t know who would have them. You could contact MircoScale and ask them if they have what you need.
colour photos in the book “the Algoma Central Railway Story” by Dale Wilson , published 1984 by Nickel Belt Rails show a dark , almost brown maroon colour
I’m not sure what era you’re working in, but the colours that I recall looked to be very similar, if not identical to those of the CPR during the '50’s and '60’s, even though the paint schemes (lay-out of colours) were different.
