Well of course, you have a railroad which has got its legs under it and is operating like a railroad should, at least in many ways, dealing with a bunch of pols. In this type of scenario, common sense and doing the right things, politically and business-wise, do not readily appear.
I think it’s time for the government of Canada to start funding air travel to the community and then see how much it cost!
It’s not just this current Canadian govt. if you look back, almost every PM of Canada since the 80s have been cutting VIA Rail outside of the Montreal-Toronto-Windsor corridor.
Good to hear. However, I feel this is just a courtesy move on part of the CN to give people time to move all of their stuff out of the inaccessible areas rather than give time to find continued funding, as I find the likelihood of the latter happening doubtful.
Seeing as how Stephen Harper is the George W. Bush of the North, yes he is definitely anti-rail. Hence the cuts at VIA.
Too little, too late. I would like to see VIA Rail restore Truro-Sydney, NS rail service, along with the CP “Canadian” route through Calgary, AB. Never happen, methinks.
Yar! ’ Oh, Canada’ needs more DeHaviland “Beavers” in the air, like the one that just went down in Nepal, with 23 souls.

Sound like Prime Minister Steven Harper has a vendetta against passenger rail; never mind the benefits passenger rail provides. That’s very short sighted.
Good thought, Bruce. I’ll bet you the Canadian Government will be kicking themselves in the ass when they now much air service will truly cost.
23 on a Beaver? The Beaver is the best bush plane ever, but you could never get 23 people on one!
People pressure carries alot of weight with Federal Canadian Gov!ts especially when a Federal Election is due in 2015,. And a new young Liberal Leader is gaining alot of grass roots support. Watch out Harper the Kid is breathing at your heels .
