Too bad, those jobs wont be RR retirement, I hope they dont contract T&E employees.
This is the right decision practically but perhaps the wrong direction politically.
The reason passenger rail is under constant attack - even, in AAF’s case, where there is literally no downside to anyone whatsoever beyond their rivals - is because there’s no political lobby, no “Big Rail”, to defend it. Creating “Big Rail” means creating as many stakeholders in passenger rail as possible. For that reason, I hope that as time goes on and AAF, Texas Central, and the Eastern Flyer/Iowa Pacific, expand, they try to build a large coalition of participants who all gain from passenger rail’s growth, and who stand to lose should it fail again.
