I think the turtle is a little out of scale. [swg] Very cute though. What does the turtle think of the train??? And does he ever ride???

There has been no turtle derailments, but he likes that dock .

Is that a real turtle that swims in real water or epoxy? It looks real, as I see some water flowing into the pond. Very creative. I like the whole layout. Interesting brick fascia as well. kudos!

yes its a real turtle there are 8 fish with him .the brick fabric I found at afabric store

Absolutely, he is so fast he might be the fastest turtle on the east coast.

( I still need a answear on my scale)

I’m not sure of the scale question you have, but I’ve modeled HO scale structures on my layout in the distance to trick the eye into believing the layout is bigger than it really is. I have HO friends who put N scale stuff in.

I think that 3-rail O scalers–many of them–have such a mix of semi-scale and scale stuff that they can vary from 1:48 to 1:64.

Incidentally, we often hear of putting small structures in the foreground, but what about putting larger things in the foreground? I put a 1:30 car in the foreground of my last layout and it looked natural.

I suppose your turtle could even look natural in the foreground as trains in the distance go by. It’s like the camera trick of holding the moon in your hands. Your eye thinks perspective, not actual distances and sizes.

My best advice is to see if it looks good.

Thanks, Im going to keep making things the way they are then. Im using a HOShay with a On30 cab, I’m doing this because of the look . Like you would see at a park ,Train small people are same

Great, I’m glad I was able to help. It’s the look that matters!

Interesting topic for sure!

I’m always wondering who more folks don’t incorporate On30 in their layouts. Since there are NO 3-rail narrow gauge trains, if you want to add a narrow gauge line, it makes perfect sense.

As for HO, you could place that in the background.

Very interesting topic; next time, we shall make a post of it , perhaps.

Then, there’s selective compression and forced perspective that we could talk on and on about all night or until the cows come home.

I think your water turtle is neat. Some of these grow to large dimensions.
