It seems in my reading of Model Railroader and attending train shows that we, as the MR community are a pretty pale group.
Is it just me, or is it a fact that there are few people of colour in our hobby?

A model railroader is a model railroader.
Don’t bring race into things - if you do and can’t look beyond the way someone looks, you’re a racist, regardless of your motivation.
Religion, politics and race. They are the best things to avoid on this or any other forum unless you want all hell to break loose.

Sorry,
No offense was intended to anyone. If anything, I was wondering if my perception was wrong. My sincere desire would be to have as many of all sorts of folk involved. If it’s a problem, let’s all drop it.
Model railroaders self select. That is, they decide for themselves that they want to enter this hobby. There’s no big insidious government conspiracy, or any other kind going on here.

I’m a colorful type of guy. I love trains with big black engines pouring black smoke and white steam out the stack with a bright red caboose at the end and sporting the yellow Erie diamond on the tender. That colorful enough???
Yes i have seen most MRs to be White but there is now rule if you are Black or Asian you can not participatie in our hobby we do not have a MR police.[:D] Tim
What exactly are “people of color”? I don’t know what you’re talking about. People are people. Model railroaders are model railroaders. Why does the race card have to be played with everything? It takes ALOT to offend me, but this does. I think to ask The question you did shows that you are indeed a racist.
That was a bit over the top, David. The question, in my perception, had no malice or questionable intent. He was merely asking if his perception was correct, and clearly was willing to be corrected. There was no agenda, no problem with tone, no racism.
Just my two cents…
With some people, that’s all they see regardless of how harmless the question is. Myself, sometimes I’m a little red, once in awhile I’m a little pale, summer time I turn kind of brown the degree of which depends on how long I’m outside. Usually my left arm is darker than the right from letting it hang out the open car window while driving. Once I fell asleep at the beach with my sunglasses on and I was tomato red but had white circles around my eyes… Is that enough color to be considered a Person of color??
I think we should let this go guys. Last thing we need is Bergie in here to ball us out again. Whether harmless or not it could get out of hand.
I second bdardner…Everone is the same here…except the price of our toys…hopefully this is the last statement.
Don’t take what I said the other way.
People who worry about why a particular sex or race is in greater numbers in a certain hobby or something have some serious issues.
Frankly I don’t care. Excluding someone is just as wrong as promoting them for the same reasons (read: “affirmative action”). People have free will - they’ll go about and do as they please.
Now that I clarified, I too agree this should be dropped and allowed to drop into the bowels of the forum.
I don’t see anything offensive about his topic. However, race is still a very sensative topic and should be talked about with care.
Demographics man, it’s all demographics, nothing more, nothing less
“WHERE is my SD40?”
I’m always pale this time of year, I live in the northeast, can’t get outdoors with any consistancy 'till mid April…
When I first read the question, my thoughts were, that so many of us spend enormous amounts of time indoors and in the “dungeon” that we’re not able to gain any color…
I don’t see color or race, only people that are model railroaders.
Bob K.
I see color and race though they don’t necessary correlate. I’m not blind. They sure don’t bother me. I think it’s interesting. My great grandfather came from Scotland (Ouch!) and some folks thing that’s interesting.
Er…you better give back that SD40 old man.
Have fun,
