All Texas members please check in...

Hey guys. I’ve got an idea I’d like to throw at you and see what you think. I was wondering if it might be possible for those of us that live in Texas to get together one of these days, and meet at a central place and hang out for a day to talk trains and get to know each other in person. Who knows, if it were to work out, we could make it a yearly event…

Im here in San Antonio. Lots of MRR action down here. I belong to a club with 80+ members and there are at least 3 other large clubs here. There are a couple of live steam layouts and some very large scale layouts.

That would be great, I live in Atlanta Texas, near Texarkana. Would be willing to travel for a meeting.

Sounds like fun. I’m in Dallas. Bruce

Okay guys… Let’s give it a few days and see who else signs on, then we’ll go from there and agree on a meeting place and a possible date. I personally would like to see at least about ten of us or so involved in the gathering, and as far as a gathering place goes, a McDonald’s on some high way would probably be just fine, but then, that’s just a suggestion. I also realize that distance would be a problem for some, so if you would have to drive more than say 200 miles I can understand your reasons for not being able to make it. I really hope we can put this together. I think it would be a lot of fun…

I’m in Austin, and depending on my work schedule, I might be able to make it. Only been in mrr about a year, and havent done much since moving into new house last december.

Dallas area here…I second the motion concerning the McDonalds or something similar…so long as its got a view of the tracks I’m not picky…

I’m in Irving. Where and When.

I wish I were still back in San Antonio for this. Me and my family were involuntarily relocated to Colorado Springs CO last October. I was fairly active at the Texas Transportation Museum. I hope this works out and have fun.

born and raised in San Antonio…live in Crosby, Texas…(about 20 miles east of no where and Houston)…getting together every year?..that’s a lot of miles to cover…it takes three days to cross this state…chuck

Hey Chuck. How we doin today ?.

Yea, you’re right, this lilo state of ours might as well be a country unto itself due to it’s size… That’s why I suggested a gathering of those that live in say a 200 mile radius of where ever we decide on meeting. Some of the guys could meet with other members and ride with them. I was just thinking, pictures of the gang could be taken and posted on the forum here along with what all took place. I think it would be a real hoot… It would be great if the members of other states could do the same. I’ve got a couple of buddies that said they’d like to join us. Looking at my map, so far it looks like possibly Madisonville between Dallas and SanAntonio on interstate 45 would be a good spot to meet, but then, that’s just a suggestion.

Madisonville is really too far east for everybody…Brady Texas claims to be the middle of the state and that’s over 400 miles from where we live…maybe someday that star trek thingy will be a reality…“Scotty”…“beam me to Brady”…LOL…chuck

Don’t we all live in the Land of High Taxes??

I always thought it was called Dollars, Taxes (Dallas ,Texas)…arr…arr…arr…chuck

I’m in Austin. Whether or not I could show up depends on work schedules.

hey guys im in Sherman here about 75 miles north of Dallas. Tracklayer Texas is its own country, it was founded as a Republic and still is a Republic. Distance is not a major concern for me as I used to drive trucks cross country (U.S)

Chuck how bout this idea–if this works make the yearly gathering in a major city that has lots of train traffic or maybe a small to mid size town like Brownwood on the BNSF Sweetwater sub???

Tom

I’m in Denton, Tx, about 45 mins North of Dallas.

Yea Tom, that’s true. Texas is still a republic. What was I thinking…

As for getting together, where and when. I just came up with the idea, but am going to let you guys work out the details. Just let me know and I’ll be there - if I can.

Well, I have all you guys beat! I live in El Paso. The other side of texas! 10 hour drive to Ft. Worth, 12 hour drive to San Antonio. It would be really nice to see all you Texas modelers! [:D]

Hi Guys: I’m west of Ft. Worth in eastern Parker County. Sounds like a good idea of course like everyone else it depends on time and place. Put my name in the pot.

PS. The UP cuts our ranch in half . Great train watching.
