ALM Diesel

Can anyone tell me where I can get an idler gear for an ALM engine. I know ALM doesn’t make engins any more, but someone must service them. The engine is a Western Maryland. Diesel.

Take it to you LHS and see if they have any Athearn, Atlas, or Kato gears. Also, check NWSL(North West Short Line). NWSL may have the whole truck available, in which case you would have to buy two to keep the gearing consistant. Their online catalog is quite cumbersome to go through.

I recently returned to model railroading after thirty years away, and somehow convinced myself that my AHM locomotives were ALM locomotives, I think the printing was rubbed off or the sun was in my eyes or something, anyway, the trucks for AHM locomotives, should your’s prove to be that brand, are readily available at train shows and shops that sell used locomotives. In fact, replacement or additional locomotives are not hard to find, at prices between $10 and $25.

Definately ALM. What is “LHS” ?

LHS = Local Hobby Shop. Depending on the loco you may have to consider a new drive unit, or alternatively hunt on ebay for “junker” locos to break for spares. Hope this is of use!
