almost hesitate to ask...but can static grass gun still be made?

Because I know this topic has gone around a lot of times.

But I just had a look at a retail site selling the static grass gun for about $200

I had wanted to build my own, but I think the last word was that the little ion generators can no longer be purchased anywhere.

If the item can still be made, I would appreciate directions to a link/site or thread that shows a parts list in which all the parts can actually be obtained.

Thanks.

This article will tell you how to build them. All the parts are still available.

The article begins on page 93.

The 12 Volt Negative Ion Module can be purchased in the United States, from Model-Trains-Video.com,

on the page linked below.

J has it for you above. The parts are all generic with the exception of the neg ion generator. I built mine in less than an hour for around $25.00. Warms my heart every time I use it. Since I model CA, I use it a lot.

Here’s a pic of mine $7.00 and 7 minutes. It works great.

And here is a You Tube Video on how to do it.

Good luck.

Here’s one that can be made from an Electronic Flyswatter purchased at Harbor Freight for $2.

If you type electronic flyswatter static grass applicator into Google you’ll find many articles on how to build your own.

I just used the 1.5V batteries that came with it and it work well enough on the six SQ.FT. I’ve done. However I have a lot of square Kms. left to do and am going to use an old adapter with it and see how that does. I have about fifty in a bag, as I keep all adapters from any electronics I throw out. A little experimentation is in order. I think a six volt one may be a good choice as I don’t want to lift the layout off the ground. Just with the AA 1.5V I had the grass beaming itself up to the applicator.

On a side note, when I bought the packages of grass I bought about six different kinds of grass types and on fringe areas mixed two or three of them together for that cross cultivation look. I am very happy I did as it gave a much more natural look.

On the “ruleslawyer” site, he mentions getting the idea from a site that was taken down. I saved the files from that taken down site and have them here …

Mark.

Thank you for the replies.

I have bought the swatter and tea strainer now.

Not to belabor this to death, but I find I have a choice of mesh sizes with my tea strainers. One is almost 1.5 mm mesh and the other is slightly less than 1 mm. Doesn’t sound like much difference, but the appearance is noticeably different.

Do you think it matters which size I use. I guess I can always just experiment, but I thought I would ask anyway.
