Almost perfect Easter

[8D]The sun was out ,the trains were running, the Train Controller was having a beer.

And the maintenance dept was busy.

powlee
your lucky , a maintenance dept. ??? i’m the m. dept. here , and the train m. dept here, but she helps me when she can??? did’t get to run trains Easter, it is raining here , until tomorrow some time the weather man said .ben
[:(]

Well, I didn’t get a chance to run on Easter, but I did get out and make a few laps today, enjoying the unseasonable 70° weather. Not a lot of maintenance as yet, but I did clear the yard of “land mines” uncovered by the melting snow. Always a spring treat…

I spent Easter weeding the backyard, not an easy thing to do after a 60" rain winter…kinda like mowing a small patch of Nebraska prarie, had some 5 foot tall Deadly Man Eating Triffids to get rid of, only a couple chased me around the yard before I could shove them into the trash bag! [;)][(-D]

Did some garage trains, put the circle of new track on the patio, but started to rain monday so picked it up again. Will be nice to be back to SoCal weather, but at least I don’t have to water anymore.

Ian, that looks like a great Easter. Congrats on the maintainence dept.

Easter weekend Saturday #8211; Sunny and the snow was off the right of way. I swept the track, cleaned the dirtiest parts, ran an extension cord from the house, used a little transformer and spent 3 hours with my Wife running the trains and fixing what winter had put asunder. I have some photos on Webshots (http://community.webshots.com/album/167630828jtUGLO at the end) if anyone wants to see. (I should change the name on it to first year photos). The back yard as a whole will not be very usable till late April so the only yard work I could do was on the rail road.
Enjoy,
Jaime.

I do not know where “#8211” caame from on my last post. Please ignore. Jaime

Enjoyed the visit! I like your little control station. I’m also intigued by the small stand alone loop, would be kinda nice for a mining tram or something of that nature.[:)]

When you are retired and an agnostic Easter break doesn’t mean much. However we did go out for a barbeque saw some dolphins at Mooloolaba, went lateral surfing at Caloundra, watched some young girls in bikini’s, had freinds over, drank some beer same old stuff.

rgds Ian

Ian, here in the US its perfect then. We don’t get to call it EASTER break. At the kids schools its called spring break. Reminds them of topless women and drunk men in Florida, Palm Springs, or Mexico. Much better.

What is lateral surfing ?? What do you BBQ down under ?? Here in San Diego, Steak, and hamburgers are the best without sand in them even better.

Tim

Matt & Underworld,

Thank you. We bought some ore cars this fall just for the mining train idea. Alas, the track we bought for that little loop was not brass or stainless and has corroded beyond use in less than a year. But we do plan on rebuilding it at some point.

Jaime, what brand of track? Was it the snow or the heat that did it in ?

Tim

Tim,

I do not know what brand the track is as we bought the track on EBay. I just was looking at a piece of the track and do not see any manufacturer’s name on it. It is silver color but there is a slight golden or brass colored patina. I should have known by the weight it wasn’t Stainless.
The track was put in last May and taken out in early December, before any snow (in hopes of using it around the Xmas tree). Our summer was not very hot one for New Hampshire and there should have been good drainage so water was not sitting on it for long periods. As far as I can remember there were no big weather extremes it lived through.

Jaime, don’t get the hollow stuff. Look for solid rails.
