Alteration of locomotive road names

As an example, I have several N scale diesel locomotives of various roads and want to convert these to NORFOLK SOUTHERN paint scheme and decals. Any suggestions as to the correct method of such a transformation ?

Thanks

Strip the paint from the shells that you have (91% isopropyl alcohol will work), paint and decal for road you want. Add road specific details if needed or wanted. Nothing magic or complicated.

If I may extend the discussion slightly, what’s the best way to remove lettering without taking off the paint? I have several N scale locos that are nicely painted black and I just want to re-letter them and add my own RR logo.

LION just paints over whatever is there. Him not too good with decals. Fortunately NYCT uses (Used in those days) black number plates with white letters. (I have the Correct Font). I print them on white label paper and stick them in place.

LION has even tried printing the entire passenger car sides on the printer, and applying them to the cars. The results were mediocre, but with skill would get better. As it is these are sufficient since they will be part of a static display in Penn Station, which means of course that it is under ground, people will get only a glimpse of what is actually in there.

I have been removing lettering on a couple of N scale steam locos using PineSol disinfectant cleaner and rubbing with a new pencil eraser (gently). Spray the area with gloss coat, apply new roadname decal and overspray with dull coat.
