Just picked up a Atlas B&A HH660 for a pretty good price. I don’t have too many B&A items for my NYC layout so this will be a nice addition.
Anyhow, on the TCS website they recommend a MC2 decoder. I was wondering if a DP2X might work instead because it would plug right into the NMRA socket. However, I’m wondering whether the DP2X would bump into the onboard sockets and not seat completely…or not have enough overhead room for the shell to seat properly…or both.
I e-mailed TCS to ask them but haven’t received a reply yet. Wondered if anyone else had tried it or another decoder and found out it fit. The DP2X measures 0.462" x 0.687" x 0.12".
It MIGHT be too tall, especially if the pins don’t go all the way down, though it is not as tall as the MC2, it is probably taller than the 8 pin plug on the MC2. But I’d think those connectors would be the bigger problem. You can measure the space around the 8 pin to see.
Still wish they’d make an HH900 so I could buy one…
I put the MC2 in my HH-660. I dont remember if I hardwired or used an 8pin plug. I will crack it open this evening and check. You may need a reversed plug.
I used a harness. Pin 1 is on the foward engineers side of locomotive. You need the harness that allows you to put the decoder back near the cab. A 1" harness should do. Dont know if it is the reversed harness or not.
