Am I doing something wrong?

I read all these posts about posting pictures and see the long winded descriptions about image, ETC.
I just open two browser windows. One on this forum and one in photo bucket, select my picture that I want, copy it in photobucket and past in my post on the forum. What could be more simple yet? Mine look and work the same way as every one else. [sigh]

Not at all. The newer format of Photobucket even allow just a click on the “img” and paste to message post. Was a bit more difficult in the past. Not sure if all other picture host sites will work in the same manner, I only have Photobucket.

That’s the way I have always done it.

It worked on the old site and it works on the new site.

I never push that silly “insert media” button.

Of course you are not doing anything wrong! But, I would suggest perhaps a little more patience with some of your fellow posters.

I have to confess that I am one who has posted a very long winded explanation of how to post pictures.

I think what you have to understand is that some (many?) of us fellow posters are computer dinosaurs. What comes easily to you because of your experience and knowledge is unintelligible to to lots of people who would like to participate in these forums by posting pictures, but who lack confidence with computers. I posted the windy explanation because I was asked for help by another forum member who could not grasp the process based on several cryptic explanations.

My point is that we are not all in the same boat as far as skills are concerned. Some of us lay better track, some of us do better scenery etc. etc. Some of us need very basic (windy) explanations about how to post pictures.

Please take it easy on us dinosaurs!.

It’s just a matter of personal preference. I, too, am guilty of some long winded posts. Usually, those are “how-to” threads to help people that might run into some of the same problems I’ve run into. There will always be those who, if you ask “what time is it”, will tell you how to build a clock. [swg]

NO disrespect intended, I just keep getting lost doing the URL image thing. I found copy, paste easier for me.

Have fun.

Here’s a pic from my photobucket.

Open your picture and you get a screen like this one.

Simply click on the white box to the left of the yellow arrow I drew. You will see it say “copied” flash for a second.

Then post a message here and inside the message just right click and select paste. The link will paste along withe the img code to make it show. After you post the picture will display.

Here’s what the last post looks like with the img code pasted in.

Like so much else in this hobby, if it works for you, how can it be “wrong”?

Doesn’t mean anyone else has to do it your way, either.

I use any number of methods…makes no big whoop if the img shows up…

Quick example…ye old clicking on image link…I can transfer image from one forum onto this one…

Hi

My apologies to all. [D)]
I just noticed that my copy and paste does not work with FireFox browser. There may be other browsers that won’t copy and paste also. The Internet Explorer does somethings to my liking but not all.

Rail on.

So, here is my test of the Hamltn Blue method.

Thanks for bearing with me as I test this with a pic of my Faller Roadway design. In the ‘Preview’ it shows only the link.

Lee,

This subject comes up from time to time. Below is a reply I made to a previous thread about uploading and posting pictures. I hope this helps

As has been said that to upload pictures you must create a host such as PHOTOBUCKET www.photobucket.com It is free. After you create your account you merely click on the upload button and then select the picture you want to upload from your computer.

Now you are ready to post that picture to your thread.

There are two ways to insert the picture. The way I like to do it is to click on the direct link box under the picture on photobucket. This automatically copies the link. Then you go to the thread and there is a bar across the top. One of the icons is green and looks like film. Click on this and a window will open with a box to paste the URL that you got from photobucket.

When you click on" insert" the picture will show up on the thread wherever your cursor is placed

I try to have the cursor placed so that I have space above and below the inserted picture.

It sounds like a big deal but it is actually simple once you get the hang of it.

Hope this helps

Happy Railroading

hmmmm,

This is what I get with the simple copy and paste method.

I assume that most people’s problems with posting pictures is they assume a picture can be placed directly into a message instead of being linked from another html location. A lot of the “long winded expaianation” is simply getting them to open a photobucket account and make the picture web accessable. The original poster has assumed that the person already knows about all that part.

I assume the original posters “copy” is somehow copying the link rather than the image itself. That is why it works. On mine if I select the image, do a “copy link”, and then paste it works. Or if the “copy link” option is grayed out I can select “properties” and copy the “image link” from there.

I thought try this I have never posted a picture

just want to see what happens

Thanks,

Sam

I guess that wasn’t right. I’ll figure it out some day.
