Am I obsessed?

Maybe i’m getting a little carried away, but I have NJ International wig wag signals on my layout, and although nice kits, no flashing red lights in the wig wag pendelum. That was a little dissapointing considering all the effort that was put into these kits. All they have are red amber plastic. I have the crossing gates with flashing red lights, though. The reason may be because these pendelums are so small. I was wondering if its possible to replace the string that pulls the wigwags with small gauge wire and put in red L.E.D.'s? Anyone ever did a project like this? I am experimenting with one of the kits now. Thanks.[:P]

Are You obsessed? Yes but take a number as there is a long line in front of you!

I think it is doable as there is 1.5 mm red LED’s available through Walthers. You may be able to wire it without compromising your Wig Wag motion if you use small enough wire or use the pole as your negative, that’s if its conductive.

Do you dream about wig-wag signals at night? Do you look at 2 waffles on a plate and think crossing signals? Do you create grade crossings in your mashed potatoes, then use the meatloaf as a loco?[:0]
If so, you’re obsessed[;)]
If not, you’re a modeler. Get used to it, enjoy it, this wont hurt at all.[:p]
My foggy mind (or is that smoke filled?) remembers something about an MR article years ago that animated a wig wag signal. Might want to search the index for a prior article.
Good luck!

Your no obsessed, just careful with detail. I would say the 1.5 mm lights would do nice. Good luck!

If the LED idea does not work out, you might consider installing a red jewel.

Guilty of “playing with my food-train-set-thingy”. Powerful loco as well as a delicious meal! [:)]

[:P] Ahhhh… It’s good to know i’m not crazy. Don’t ask my ex-wife though. Great ideas. Thanks. I actually have 30 gauge wire that I’m experimenting with, so I’ll try that and I’ll try to find that past article on animating wig wags. Thanks!

sounds good to me when i get a new layout i plan on doing that with my layout and wigwags.
