American Flyer Hookup Instructions

Hi -

I just unpacked a train set that supposedly has not been operated since the 1940s. It is an American Flyer 2-4-2 steam loco with four cars, track, and and #1269 Transformer, Dyaltype, 75 watt capacity. It looks like it is in good condition, and the power cord is not dried out.

There are four posts on the transformer - a Base Post on the left, 7 to 14V. post, 6V. Only post, and a 9V. “To Whistle” post on the right.

Which posts do I connect to the two-clip connector that attaches to the track?

I am excited and would love to see a six year old grandson’s eyes light up if we can get this old gem running.

Thank you.

The 7 to 14 volts post is the one you want. One wire there, the other to the Base post. 6V and 9V are for accessories
