American Flyer rebuild/refurbish posts and aid

Okay, I’ve looked and I’ve used search, and perhaps I’m just missing it – can someone point me to the forum where posts are found concerning AF trains, rebuild and refurbish info, etc. I have several locomotives which need my help, and although not entirely clueless, I could sure use some guidance on the e-units, connections to the engine, and proper maintenance of the engines. Thanks much, Raphael – a newbie

Raphael,

This forum has many American Flyer devotees who have rebuilt and or refurbished various American Flyer trains cars and accessories. Just throw the question out and I am sure some one will provide and answer.

There is another site that has some refurb links and info. Do a search for Paul Yorke.

I have made some posts about a Flyer C&O #234 GP-7 that I have done some repairs to.

I have also asked questions about converting the fleet to dc, due to a number of mine having bad E-units (corrosion makes for a bad rebuilt of them, so replacement is the best option.)

Based on the nature of the modifications needed, I will just replace the parts needed instead of trying to alter the fleet.

RFGO.com has a lot of info on how to work on flyer equipment.

There are a pair of hobby stores nearby that have a lot of flyer parts and service areas, and they have a website of info on Flyer equipment. The stores themselves have a lot of flyer parts, but a few of the people working there are not pleasant to work with. (One changed the price of a Lionel 671 that was in sorry shape when he found out it ran, albeit very rough. $75 turned into $200 in a matter of 30 seconds. Another ridiculed my project engine, a 1947 Lionel 221, as he thought the project would cost me more than I would possibly make on selling the loco.) The address is trainrepairparts.com

Again, good site, mostly positive experiences with the stores, just a few bad encounters that come to mind a lot.

I have done a bit of work on my Flyer fleet, ranging from wiring to restoration. I might be of some help to you.

There are a lot of resources out there for you to use, and there are a lot of people here that have been working on these trains longer than I have been around. It is a nice thing to learn more about these trains.

This site is a great resource for working on older trains, and some newer ones, if you have any further questions, just ask, someone here will know the answer to the question you have.
