Greetings!! I have an American Flyer layout and have several reverse loops as part of that layout. I’m
trying to use the AF 695 relays to make this work. Both of these reverse loops use two regular AS switches, not a WYE. I know that I have it wired correctly. My question is,
once the train is in the “control” area do I have to have the entire train (length) in the “controlled” area,
then stop the train, throw both switches, then restart the train? Seems self defeating if that’s the case but
that is what it seems to me. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks
You would not want the train to be longer than the length of the loop because you would hit the end of your train.
If the 695 is operating properly the current will make the relay flip polarity at the point of the insulated pins and the relay will operate the switch into the correct position. You do not need to do anything.
Do you have the button on the switch set to two train operation? I don’t have a 695, but have been wanting to get one. I just read my K-line servive manual, which is a reprint of lots of AF literature. It does not specifically state the the 695 relay will filp the track switch, but I always thought it would.
I am sure others with reverse loops can confirm our suspicions.
