I don’t know why I do the things I do, I just do them and hope for the best. well this time I bought a Burlington Zephyr train off ebay and it is missing a few parts. does anyone have one of these so I can at least know what I’m looking for? I’m considering simply adapting a small electric motor in it instead of the clockwork motor. I have a few small Marx 490s anyway here are the photos:

thanks ahead of time!

I don’t know that I can help much but I’ve got a AF Green Diamond in pretty rough condition and the cars attach in a similar fashion to yours. Other than pickup lights in the cars the only parts were a headlight, motor and drive wheels that mounted to the roof by a screw and a manual reverse attached to the rear of the power car. If you’re missing wheels I imagne that the Train Tender or George Tebolt have them.

Based on the pictures it looks like the only thing you are missing (I’m assuming all of the wheels are present - can’t really tell) is the motor. Pages 3 and 14 of the the thread Prewar American Flyer on this site have pictures of the two variations of your set. While they don’t provide pictures of the underside they do give you some idea of the kind of motor you should be looking for. The motor is a 4 drivered unit with a single pivot mount that connects to the roof of the power unit.
