Americas Cup equipment being moved by train

Neat trick, seeing the rail line into Newport is isolated from the mainland due to a missing bridge at Tiverton.

The tracks to Newport, RI are not connected to the rail network on the mainland due to a removed swing bridge in Tiverton, RI. It is impossible that a train would have departed Newport, RI for a cross-country trip.

Maybe containers we loaded in Newport and trucked elsewhere?

The train left from Quonset Point RI, across the harbor from Newport and was loaded by the Seaview RR and handed off to the Providence & Worcester and the New England Central RR

The containers came to the US from Europe by ship. They were offloaded at Davisville RI. The boats were assembled and then towed to Newport for the race. The reverse was done for the trip by train. Routing is PW-Willimantic-NECR-Montreal-CN-Chicago-UP

all the way up to Montreal? I wonder why an NS routing to Chicago from Ayer west was not used?

CN does not service Ayer MA, NS does. P&W could have taken this train up from Davisville to Gardner MA and given it to NS there. But instead they went the other direction to their CT connection with NECR in Willimantic. Most likely this is because of the new close working relationship that P&W and NECR have, where they run joint trains straight through Willimantic without having to stop to interchange.

As a former Newporter, I was curious how the train would get off the north end of Aquidneck Island.
