For those of you like myself who have been waiting patiently- the 1st shipment of LGB Amfleet cars arrived this morning. We received the Cafe cars and should be receiving the Coaches tomorrow or Friday morning. I brought one home to inspect and photograph. I’ll post some pics soon!
Here are a few pics :
They look better than I thought they were going to. Nice. Need 2 sets to kitbash and need color codes or name of paint.
Taking Amtrack off and replacing with my name [:D]
Better ask this what is in a set (how many) and if I buy a second set will it have the same car numbers. Pricing? Kadee cup yet?
Way better pics!!! Now not so sure if I want LCE train?!
When will the cars be into the stores for i have notice LGB has on the website now shipping to all amfleet phase III items, and you said LGB of America has them now so when will you start delivering them to stores. But those photos are preaty awsome! [swg]
Some cars shipped right before New Years and the rest will ship in a day or so when our Warehouse inventory is finished (can’t ship anything during inventory).
Said it before, someones gonna make a killing offering a cab end kit for these…[;)]
Looking Good Bucksco. Only problem I have with them is vintage. Don’t think they will fit in with my 1890-1920’s era stuff. Who knows, maybe eventually??? But I’m sure it will take a very LARGE list of Honey-dews to appease da boss!!!
Thanks for the information.[:)] When will you think the cars will arrive to stores near and around chicago Illinois. Just cant wait for those amfleet cars. Oh and what type of light do they have those new LED bulbs like on the Genesis or the regular bulbs?

Thanks so much for the photos! ever since I was 6, I wanted an LGB Amtrak train, and now im 22 and can finally have it!!! I always used to pretend my LGB starter passenger set was an Amtrak train - the blue and red paint scheme seemed to be good enough for me!
Every year since 1988, I’ve had it up and running at my place!
Any possibilty that Superliners could be in the works? I know you can’t tell us about future LGB products, but I didn’t know if building such a car could be possible from LGB. That would be awesome if LGB made that kind of rolling stock.
Also, perhaps an Amtrak shelter or station could be appropriate - any such products out there or coming?
I live in Long Beach - any place around here or in San Diego that is going to have the cars in stock? One of these days, im gonna try and make it down to san diego to the factory!
Cheers and “All Aboard Amtrak!”
Jack
We’d love to have you bring a set to our open house next Sept. I know Stan has a battery power Genies that could pull it.
Bring some other LGB new items and share them.
I’d make sure you get a thick Nebraska Steak.
In the LA area I would 1st try Upland Trains in Upland (of course), other LGB places to try: Morgans Big Train in Westminster is near you, Allied Trains in Santa Monica, Train Shack in Burbank, Gold Coast Station in Ventura, Train Stop in San Dimas, Monrovia Hardware in Monrovia.
I wouldn’t count on Superliners in G scale. But they would be amazing. Just imagine how large they would be!!!
Assuming a scale of 1:29, the length of just one car would be slightly over 35 inches, and the height would be around 6.7 inches. Wow that means a length of close to 3 feet and a height over a ½ foot. Just counting Superliners, the length of a prototypical Southwest Chief consist would be over 23 feet! Add 3 P42’s, a baggage car, and maybe 1 to 3 express reefers and you have quite the trainset.
Many years ago, a company called Great Trains made G scale Superliners. These were considerably undersized length wise, and ommited several windows…but to me back in 1989 they looked so cool. I never saw any of these in person and I can’t confrim if any were actually made. The only place I ever saw them was in the 1989 Walthers large scale catalog.
Here are the Great Trains Superliners from the 1989 catalog:

Thanks for the invite Marty! If it’s possible I’ll take you up on the invitation. If anything perhaps I can loan you some cars to run and some LGB of America catalogs to distribute.

For the San Diego area try the following, in order;
- Reeds Trains, La Mesa
- Walter Andersons Nursery, Poway (Yes I said Nursery, Lots and lots of GRR appropriate “trees”.
- Value-Craft, Escondido.
Thanks everybody for the input - I realize how big a 1:29 scale superliner car would be, and you’re right - amazing im sure! I guess Ill have to build them from scratch if LGB or Aristocraft never makes them. . .
Ive seen those “great trains” superliners on Ebay now and again, next time i see them I think ill pounce on the opportunity. When I found them, i held out, hoping eventually someone would put out a more accurate model of the 80’ superliner - afterall, I am a model railroad freak when it comes to accurate dimensions and measurements
And thanks Jack for the PIKO cat# - that station is just the ticket to go with my new amfleet train! It sure would be great to also have an am"shack" station shelter, much like the one that was in my hometown in rural Oregon. . .
-How about working diaghphrams? Does anyone know if there are their parts out there that can be retrofitted to the ends of the amfleet cars to connect their vestibules? That would surely put the finishing touch on these cars . . . . Then again, I guess it would have to be quite flexible material to handle most model railroad curves. . . . .
Thats all for now, i guess time to start a thread about an G-Scale F40 that is long overdue to be made, bombardier bi-levels, or santa fe hi-levels - anything to get me closer to a superliner consist like the one of my childhood train - the Amtrak 25/26 Pioneer !! ![]()
I know you have been sending those amfleet cars around the new yeae. But what is taking them so long to get to indiana and onwards. I have been talking with retailers around chicago illinois. they received them last monday but right across the border in Indiana they have not yet gotten them and its already been a week since than.

Well, my train arrived just a couple of days ago. I love it. I know my layout is too small and my 5 foot radius curves are ridiculous for this train - but I don’t care! Oh - and the Phoenix Sound system really makes it all the more fun.
Very impressive![tup]
I have be eye balling these for a while now.

Your too kind. But I may take you up on fliers or door prizes. Mike Kidman is the LGB dealer at our open house.
Time is going by tooo fast.
Thanks for the invite Marty! If it’s possible I’ll take you up on the invitation. If anything perhaps I can loan you some cars to run and some LGB of America catalogs to distribute.
