Mark, the crowds “are” smaller on Sunday. But, there is what you need to do so the wife can enjoy the trip like my wife does. After the show, you hop on I-91 north, and go to exit 25 to Deerfield to the Yankee Candle Store. It is a very nice place, your wife will LOVE it, and, you can eat at Chandler’s right there attached to the store, it is a great place to eat and the grounds are very nice.
Hi Guys,
This show is a wonderful experience, year after year and I usually attend both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, I check out all the new stuff available and do my buying. “Greenway Products” is a great place to shop for details and a couple of years ago I got some of their really neat beer refers that they custom paint. The beer cars are not really prototypical but they sure are a lot of fun to run and viewers of my layout love them. Then, on Sunday, I spend the day talking to manufacturer’s representatives or modular layout club members to get information. For instance, a few years ago I checked out 2 different airbrush companies who had reps at the show and got a really good price on an airbrush. There are usually some “show specials” that are worth considering. Oh, by the way, “The Toolman” is at the show where I have gotten the greatest little tools like dental tools, rotary tool accessories, rock molds, and all sorts of stuff that you just don’t see every day. Also, you’ll see dozens of built-up models of craftsman-type kits, great custom-painted models like Branford Hobbies usually has available, etc. etc.
In speaking with a few modular club members who set up at the show, I discovered some great new ways to make trees using “Scenic Express Super Trees”. If you take your time and bring a digital camera with you, you can get some really great ideas by looking at the 30 or so layouts set up at the show. There are so many that you’re bound to find inspiration. I know I have.
I can only tell you that I’m like a little kid at Christmas time, anticipating this show. I’ll probably get very little sleep the night before as I’m “dreaming” about all those goodies I might find.
Oh, by the way, if you want to talk to a great guy about DCC, go to “Tony’s Train Exchange” booth where he has all the best systems
Three weeks to go until showtime. Who else is planning to be there?
I will definitely be taking a walk over with my kids.Probably Sunday.
The show is just two weeks away. Who else has made plans to attend or participate?
I’ll be there manning our City Classics’ display. Feel free to stop by and say hello. We’re in the Better Living Center along the wall near Greenway and next to Boswer/Stewart.
Jim S.
No, no, no! We’re supposed to ignore you, Jim. Right? LOL
(wicked in-joke…you’d have to be on rec.models.railroad to get this one)
Seriously, go over and see Jim at CityClassics…and then give him a hard time. He likes that. [}:)][:-,][(-D]

Weather Or No Go New Haven
I am putting my shopping list together. I live 10 miles from the show and I have been going since it was a small one day show. Now it is huge. I try to get to the show before it actually opens but that depends on the weather. Waiting out side in the rain or snow can be the pits. If it is raining, make sure you come prepared as the parking lots can be quite crowded and you can have quite a walk depending on the time of day. It seems longer when the weather is not cooperating.
If you have not done it, make copies of the floor layout. When it gets crowded, the floor layout will be a big help
Also there is a list of venders. I have a friend who has been selling used trains there for many years. I will not mention his name as the rules do not allow it.
Do not forget you shopping list. Maybe put a copy in your wallet.

I’ll be there. It’s my first time, too.
I’l be helping out Greg Gordon from the Collinsville Hobby Shop, so stop by and say ‘Hi.’ I can’t wait.

Everyone in the Boothbay Railway Village modelers group has spent the last 3 thursday evening meetings sorting and labeling materials that have been donated to us and that we can not use on our new layout. The question now is how much of of can we fit into the vehicles headed out there, along with the muesum N scale model layout, literature and promotional materials. We have some 50s vintage Lionel O scale engines, rolling stock, track, etc.; 2 boxes of Varney freight and passenger car kits, other locomotives and rolling stock, lots of PRR models of various vintages, a variety of power packs, and a bunch of buildings. See you there!!
Just checked ou the website thers 427 venders there!
A car load of us wiill be going on Sunday from Glens Falls, NY. It’s a 2 hour drive for us, (an hour south to Albany & an hour west east on I-90). We’ve been going since the early '90s.
It’s the best show, most of the manufcturers we purchase from are represented there in person.
Seee you all there, Jay.
I’ll be there as a member of the Amherst Belt Lines modular group. Here’s a tip I found helpful in the past: if the line to get in the main building is too long, walk around to one of the smaller buildings. There are ticket booths outside of them as well, and the lines are usually much shorter.
I agree with two comments above. First, leave the place to have lunch. I have walked out to the main gate for lunch for 10 years now with the same group of people – for some this is the only time I see them all year – and it is a great break to get some good food, and a breathe of fresh air. Second, the crowds are much smaller on Sunday.
Our club, the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club, will be there. Come by and check out our 4 layouts in the Young Building. We have been doing a lot of work on the HO layout so it will look quite a bit different for those of you who have seen it in the past.
PS-You can see a preview at www.mprr.org [:)]
The show is only a week away. Anyone else planning on being there? Who’s going out to the Steaming Tender in Palmer for dinner after the show?
It’s almost show time. The weather forecast looks good (maybe a little chilly). Anyone else planning on being there?
