The initial vendor list for the Amherst Railway Society’s Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, MA, is now available online: http://www.railroadhobbyshow.com/listofexhibitors.asp Time to figure out who and what you want to see and map out your plan of attack.
Got my list ready. Since I live only a few miles away from the show site, I have been going since it was a one day, one building show. I also belong to the Amherst Railway Society, a very active group.
My new girlfriend is going to get a good introdution to model railroading.

My Other Half {MOH} and I are taking a train nut friend of ours to the show, we have been before but he hasn’t.
Last time we were there it was only 3 buildings. We will plan to see if we can see everything. Depends if my back holds out well, and the back of our train nut friend holds out {he is in better shape than I as he has an implant that electrically stimulates nerves to reduce pain}. MOH has back issue only when on feet for a long period on concrete, too. We are thinking of going up friday to stay overnight {already have reservations} and go Saturday, then stay Sat night ,and maybe go back Sunday to see it all. If we miss somehting to buy, we were meant to miss it.
We aren’t expecting to buy much as we don’t have a lot to spend, but you never know what treasures we will find. Ha Ha watch us blow a wad!
WE three will be the ones hobbling around on canes together!
The crew at Boothaby Railway Vollage Model Railroaders has been busy cleaning and packing numerous items for the big show. We will be at our usual spot in section 15 of the Better Living Center. This is the big annual fund raiser for our group. Some of of items include a Z scale tabletop layout, a number of assembled craftsman kits, HO and N scale buidlings, rolling stock and locomotives (all locos pre tested). Come see us and say hi - I will be there.
I’m looking forward to it! I live about an hour south of there, so I’ll pack up the two younger boys early in the morning (teen is too cool for MR at the moment), go out for breakfast, and walk around the show as long as they hold out.
A great time will be had by all.
I plan on going. I try to make it every year. If history repeats itself, the walk from the parking lot to the buildings will be freezing, dress warm and wear some comfy walking shoes. Let’s hope the weather cooperates. I don’t really feel like driving up there in a snow storm. Oh and don’t forget your wallet. There are sure to be bargains to be had.

I will be there at the Broken Knuckle Video Productions table, I look forward to going every year but this will be the first that I wont be a spectator.
Speaking of waiting in the cold. You can buy advance tickets on-line to save that standing in the cold waiting for tickets

Only if you follow the herd…I come in the back way, via rt. 57 and Suffield St., and use the west gate. No traffic, no lines.
Yes, I should have mentioned that. Purchasing tickets in advance is key to avoiding the cold and having to wait in line. I always try to buy my tickets in advance. And if posible get a parking spot close to the gate. Two years ago they had me park out in the north forty. The wind was blowing so hard by the time I got to the gate I was frozen. I felt like I hiked across the Artic Circle.

Crud! I just realized that the show is the same weekend as my Cub Scout pack’s Pinewood Derby event. Being Cubmaster, I can’t very well duck that one!
We’ll just have to be there when the doors open on Saturday, so I can be back to spend my evening at the races!
Shhhh!
The show is only a month away now. Time to make a list of all the things you didn’t get for Christmas and start planning to find them at the show. www.railroadhobbyshow.com
When you come down Memorial Ave into West Springfield from Rt 91, stop at
Memo’s Coffee Shop. I eat there regularly. They are moving up the street a short ways Jan 2. Many stop there before or after the show. On the right side heading toward the show.

At Rt 20/Rt 5 intersection, a short ways from Memorial Ave, there is the Common Ground, a new place.
When you go into the Better Living Center front entrance and take a left, there is a Dunkin Donuts setup a little ways down inside the building.
There are a couple ATM machines there but the lines can get quite long at those machines at time.

Only 3 weeks to go until showtime. Be sure and check the vendor list for any new vendors and/or updates.
Less than 2 weeks to go now. Hope everyone has their shopping lists ready and hope for good weather.
Ken Cameron will be giving an overview of the many parts of JMRI and to interact directly with some of the developers of the JMRI programs.
I caught this on the Yahoo SoundTraxx Group where Ken is very active. I see many questions about using this softwae. Click on the show link that has already been posted in this thread.

Less than a week to go. Hope everyone has their shopping lists ready. Comfortable shoes also help.
At the rate we’ve been getting winter storms, one every 4-5 days, we’re getting one this Tuesday, so looks like we’ll be due for the next one over the weekend.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather cooperates!
I just checked the weather forecast to see what this next storm is bringing us for Wednesday into Thursday and lo and behold they are now talking about an Alberta clipper for Saturday. We’ll have to keep an eye on the weather to see what is in store for us. If we get much more snow I don’t know where I’m going to put it. [sigh]
