Amherst Train Show

Any News / Pictures from Amherst?

I’ll be driving there tomorrow.

Wish I could make it there again but I live in Knoxville, TN. I went to the Amherst show a few years ago with some RR and Steamboat friends in RI and Mass. Very best show I have ever seen. My friends up there go every year and always ask me to come up. Just too far for an old guy like me. Hope all that go enjoy it and get some good buys.

I have no photos but I can tell you we had 12,838 people attend the show today (Saturday)

Needless to say it was tough to walk around the show.

I heard a rumor that the Conway Scenic RR was going to be there unveiling their new passenger cars in H.O. scale and wonder if anyone either saw them or maybe got some pictures.

Also heard that bethelem Car Works (BCW) was going to unveil their new wood sided B&M passenger cars

Here is a picture taken from their web site. This is an MTH car and at $99 I find it expensive. The previous Athearn car was selling for $20.

Had a good bus ride down and back on Sat. Yes, it was crowded, but once the crowd evened out between all the buildings things got better. Plenty to look at, we went a little slower this year, so didn’t cover as much ground, but did see more of what we passed.

If you couldn’t find something you wanted, you were pretty fussy. Notice I didn’t say you could afford, though many items were reasonably priced for what they were. If I had a better picture of what my future layout space is going to be, I might have gotten more, but was happy with what I got.

Fun time, which is what this hobby should be about anyway.

Have fun,

Richard

Dear Friends

On the Digitrax Yahoo! group some are saying Digitrax representatives at the show claim they have new throttles in development, but they weren’t shown.

One thing that struck me about the show, there seemed to be a ton of track in any code for sale. I saw a lot of Atlas and Peco. There was a lot of cork road bed around as well. And yes there was flex track.

TCS is coming out with a sound decoder. The rep said it would be available in the June-July timeframe. CD-quality sound. They also had a Thomas train running on a short loop. The rep took the train off the track and let it run on the layout board. It ran for several seconds, a pretty impressive demonstration of their Keep-Alive decoders.

Word on the street is that Fox Valley Models had some announcements about new N scale locomotives including an SD70ACe. Unfortunately it is increasingly important to be part of “social media” to get early news of this kind and for a variety of good reasons this geezer resists going that route (facebook, twiiter, etc.)

Been driving for 3 days now , first to Amherst, Nova Scotia, then to Amherst New York, which Amherst are you referring to? nothing wrong with being specific.

From another forum, Soundtraxx will be introducing a new decoder for Atlas Gensets. The MRC version never seemed to meet the advertised features on any reviews I saw.

The show is sponsored by the Amherst Model Railway club, but the show itself takes place in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Store the below link. You will need it.

Mr B. jogged my memory about DCC. At the NCE booth they where demoing the DCC Twin. It looks like a sweet little starting unit. its a 3 amp system with 2 throttles. NCE claims its very upgradeable. For anyone thinking to make the jump to DCC, it might be the starter system for you with a MSRP of $159.99
